History

“Sight is the basic human right”. This was the theme that covered the attention and focused the philanthropy activities of some noble and notable citizens of the historic city of Peshawar. In one of the meetings of Khyber Loin Club in year 1996 they decided to establish a non-profit charitable organization and thus Khyber Eye Foundation (KEF) was established. The principal objective of KEF was to work towards eradication and prevention of blindness in Pakistan and especially in Peshawar and in the then province of NWFP.

The Provincial Government as a result of keen interest of the then Chief Minister, Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Abbassi provided four kanals of land and construction started in early 2000. Late Haji Suleman Shah contributed construction expenses of the first phase of the Hospital and on completion of construction the then Governor, Lt. Gen Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah inaugurated the hospital on September 30, 2001.

Before the construction and functioning of eye hospital at Ejazabad, Gulbahar No.4, Peshawar, the Khyber Eye Foundation, Hospital under the guidance of Prof, Dr. Muhammad Daud Khan leading ophthalmologist of Pakistan and life patron conducted more then 50 free eye camps in different far flung areas of the province and tribal areas and provided treatment to 50772 OPD patients and implanted lOL's to 5086 blind persons suffering from cataract.

The KEF eye hospital is equipped with modern equipment and 250 to 300 patients are examined daily in OPD and approximately 30 to 35 cataract surgeries by implanting IOL’s are performed. In hospital laboratory various tests including Blood Sugar, HBS, HCV etc. are performed. The Khyber Eye Foundation Hospital completed 50000 cataract Surgeries in July, 2016.

In year 2009 KEF started Mobile School Screening Project for the poor school going children of government schools. Fully equipped VISION VAN visits government schools where students age 11 onwards are screened and students suffering from refractive errors are provided glasses.
